This year the emphasis is on developing your own ideas through research of artists/genres, responding by taking your own photographs, experimenting with different techniques and starting to link these together to form the beginning of a cohesive body of work which is worth 60% of your final coursework grade.

1. Respond firstly, by reseraching the word PEOPLE &PLACES...
 
Find a dictionary definition of the word Transform and use a online thesaurus to find as many words associated with this word as you can.

Create a mind map of the word OR use one of the words you find as a starting point for your controlled coursework.

Consider different ways of applying face paint to your model, it could be controlled or abstract like in the work of Jamie Nelson, Ruby James and May Xiong.

Working in pairs apply celotape  or elastic bands to your model face.

 

Consider how distortion effects peoples perception of the human face and through manipulation changes the way you are seen.

Workshop 3:  Cover it........... 

Use materials to disguised your faces. 

Frederique Daubai/ Arjan Benning -Take a picture of your face or someone elses and slice it up- place this on top of your face and take a picture of it. 

Hector Sos/Yasutomo Ebisu- Use different materials to disguise your face such as post-it notes, flowers or shredded paper. 

Put some acetate on someone face and trace there faces then photograph them with the acetate on their faces.

Print off a portraits taken in the studio and manipulate them by hand- using the pen over the surface, alternatively take your picture into photoshop and explore shape and colour to your piece as in the case of Claudio Parentela, Ernesto Artillo, Gabi Trinkaus and

Workshop 4:  Stitch........... 

Print off a portraits taken in the studio and manipulate them by hand- using the needle and tread. Explore in your hand stitching shape and form to create an innovative design. Alternatively take your picture into photoshop and explore shape and colour to your piece as in the case of Maurizio Anzeri.

Workshop 5:  Destroy........... 

Print off three selected portraits taken in the studio or at home, and begin to burn the surface to create a manipulate decay / destroyed image.  Alternatively take your picture into photoshop and explore fire and burning photoshop brushes with colour optionsto create a Lucas Simoes inspired piece.

Workshop 6:  Mirror........... 

Take a series of landscape images looking at your enviroment and communit , ensure that you think carefully about the composition. In your images focus of deviding the frame into two using the horizon line. Taken two selected images into photoshop and explore mirroring by combining two landscape images. Print and then manipuate further using water colour or ink as in the case of Fabienne Rivory

Workshop 7:  ........... Liquify

Generate 10 or more portraits taken in the studio with well considered lighting. Take your image into photohop and manipulate your image using Liquify.  Explore  shape and form to create an innovative piece, maybe extended the idea further by combining two or more m,odels omto the composition to create a Maykel Lima inspired piece.

Print off a portraits taken in the studio and manipulate them by hand- using the pen over the surface, alternatively take your picture into photoshop and explore shape and colour to your piece as in the case of one of these three examples, consider mirroring and pattern design.

Take series of portraits in the studio and manipulate them in photoshop. Duplicate the eyes and blend together to create a surrwal image. Alternatively think of the idea, "see no evil, hear no evil and speak on evil" .  Using the clone tool in photoshop manipulate your image to create an Asger Carlsen inspired piece.

Workshop 10:  ........... Glitch....

Take a series of portraits in the studio and manipulate them in photoshop be creating a glitching effect. Select area of interest , repeat, duplicate and overlap over to top to of your oringinal image to create a Heitor Magno inspired piece... extend by making an area of your work move ( animate an area in photoshop to create a gif)

5. START PLANNING YOUR FINAL PIECE

​

  1. Using ideas from the boards create a final piece planning page in your sketchbook.  

  2. Start to create experiments for your final pieces using your own experimental works.

  3. This could be a series of Graphic Designs - Poster, Magazine Cover and Layout or a series of Portraits.

 

In responce.....   Do your own planned shoot and present alongside, ensuring you annotate your work making informed connections and reflection.

You have all made a brilliant start to your coursework. With 6 successful workshops evident it is now time to give your ideas a little twist. Your chosen word will add depth to your idea as well as challenge your visual thinking skills.... How can the word be interpreted into your concept?

You are asked to create a final piece that brings together all your work into a successful outcome. As discussed an Outcome is only effective it your work is put into context. So choose one of the following....
